There are only few biomass energy projects that have been developed in Greece, mainly for the utilization of municipal wastes. The total installed capacity of biomass energy currently stands at 58 MW for a total of 12 individual projects.
During 2016, biomass capacities of 6 MW have been added. There are no biomass projects installed on the non-interconnected islands. Throughout 2016, a total of 252 GWh of electricity was produced by biomass energy plants.

Greek Situation Analysis

·         Currently <50 MW of biomass - bio-fuels to energy are operating in Greece (Out of 350 MW).

·         Feed in tariff (FIT) is 198 €/MW h.

·         20-year contract with an extension option at the end.

·         There is a quite long licensing process
