Slītere national park is the smallest of 4 Latvia national parks. It was founded in 2000 on the basis of former Slītere nature reserve. Its territory is 26 490 ha (including 10 130 ha of aquatory of the Baltic Sea). In the southern part of the territory one can find Blue hills which are the old shore of Baltic Ice lake. In Slītere national park one can find all levels of development of the Baltic Sea. In the time of Littorina sea dunes were formed and the dunes were separated by low swamps. Seashore with its sandy beach, dry meadows and pin e forests is a part of the park.
