Krustkalni Nature Reserve is located in the middle part of Latvia in Madona region. It is also forbidden to entry the reserve without a special guide.The reserve was founded in 1977 to save the special landscape of hills and valleys. The territory of the reserve is 2978 ha.

There one can find protected species of birds and animals like black stork, Picoides tridactylus, Dendrocopos leucotos, Ural owl, Boreal owl, Pygmy owl, Caprimulgus europaeus, otter, wolf, lynx, and different rare species of butterflies.

There one can find 555 species of highest plants including 32 very rare species .
