Gauja National park is the biggest and oldest national park in Latvia. It was founded on 1973. The park is located in the northern part of Latvia, in Vidzeme – near the towns Sigulda, CÄ“sis, Valmiera and LÄ«gatne. Its territory is 91 745 ha.

The territory of the park includes also the valley of the river Gauja, it is included also in the list of the net of protected areas Nature. The park was founded in order to protect animals and plants as well as cultural monuments, geographical forms and forests and to develop tourism in the natural environment of the river Gauja
