Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Power Station

Pļaviņas HES plays a very significant role in the Latvian energy system – according to the installed capacity, it is the largest hydropower plant in the Baltics and second largest in the European Union. In 2015, Plavinas HES generated 1022 GWh of electricity.

 This structure was unique – it was proven for the first time that it is practically possible to build a medium head power plant on soft ground. Plavinas HES is the largest hydropower plant in the Baltics in terms of installed capacity. It has ten hydropower units whose total capacity are 893,5 MW.
