Getlini eco-friendly landfill is one of the largest producers of green energy in Latvia. The source of energy is the landfill gas which forms in waste deposits in biodegradable cells. The surplus heat produced by the power unit is used to heat the greenhouses at Getlini, ensuring an ideal environment for agricultural production throughout the cold months of the year. In turn, the grazing herd of sheep act as grass mowers and keep the waste disposal site looking pristine.
